What technology do you need to make it as an online fitness coach?

Being an online fitness coach can be a fantastic way to help more people and increase your monthly income. It’s possible to make anywhere between $2.5k-$10k per month as an online fitness coach – not bad?

The good news is that it’s not as hard as you think. If you have the coaching expertise, are prepared to work hard, and combine this with the right technology, you are extremely likely to succeed.

This article will look at some of the key technology that you can use to grow your business. Technology that will help you get a full diary of paying customers and help you be super-efficient with your time.

#1 WordPress Website

As an online personal trainer, it’s essential to have a website. A website is your shop, where people land to check out your services and what you have to offer.

Setting up a website is easy, and for most coaches, using a custom-built WordPress site will be all you ever need. WordPress is incredibly easy to use and requires little (if any) technical knowledge of computer code.

Website Tips:

User Friendly – make sure your website is appealing, with enough engaging images, videos, and content – visit this personal trainer website for a perfect balance of photos, content, and videos. When a potential customer lands on your site, you want to make it easy for them to navigate and find what they want as quickly as possible. Lastly, make sure your website looks good on both the desktop, tablet, and mobile.

Website Speed – Make-sure the speed of your website is up to scratch. The faster your page(s) load, the better. If you have a slow speed site and pages take longer than 3s to load, people will click off your site and go elsewhere. Make sure you invest in a decent web hosting company.

Custom Design –  If you can afford to have a developer design your website, this is often the best way to go. A good developer will listen to what you want and take on board your business’s needs.

#2 Website Plugins

On WordPress websites, you can download ‘plugins’, which enable you to enhance your overall website. For example, you can add plugins that:

  • Improve your SEO and Google rankings
  • Increase the speed of your website
  • Embed videos
  • Back up copies of your website (in case it crashes)
  • Integrate with your social media channels
  • Opt-in forms (to generate leads and inquiries)
  • Collect & Analyse data – traffic, inquiries, bounce rate, website speed, etc

The marvelous thing about ‘plugins’ is that they are easy to install and use. The ones I recommend online personal trainers to use are:

WordPress Forms – this plugin enables you to build custom forms, such as ‘contact forms’ – name, email, address, etc. It also allows you to create questionnaires. For example, you can create multiple-choice forms that are ideal for sending to clients – especially when creating a meal and exercise plan.

You can also insert email opt-ins on your web pages/blog i.e., “download our free custom recipe book” – where the custom enters their name and email address in exchange for a free ebook. All websites aim to either sell a product or collect data. Many people will not buy on their first visit to your site, so gathering an email address is vital – you can then reach out to them with tailored email campaigns.

Mailchimp Integration – If you don’t know already, Mailchimp is a great way to send out email campaigns to your potential audience – and therefore increase your online personal training sales. You can integrate ‘WordPress Forms’ (mentioned above) with ‘Mailchimp’ – so that when a customer contacts you, their email address automatically gets added to your Mailchimp list.

Yoast SEO – SEO is crucial for increasing traffic and ranking for words such as ‘online personal trainer’ or key terms that your audience will be searching for on Google. The Yoast SEO plugin will help you improve your website ranking pages in Google. The plugin tells you what you need to do to improve your SEO score i.e., meta tags, keyword frequency, paragraph lengths, headings, titles, image tags, etc. It’s effortless to use and an absolute must for online fitness coaches.

#3 Fitness Blog

One of the best ways to drive traffic to your website is to create a blog. If you create content that matches ‘key Google search terms’ – there’s a chance you can rank on page 1 of Google (ideally the top 3 search terms) and therefore drive thousands of new visitors to your site each month.

Having a fitness blog will also demonstrate your expertise and is a great way to keep users on your site for an extended period.

High-quality content that keeps people engaged and has a ‘call to action’ such as ‘get in touch today’ or ‘download our free muscle building guide’ is a great way to build relationships with new and potential customers.

You can also easily integrate Paypal buttons into your blogs and generate passive income by selling ebooks, workout programs, and meal plans. Again, you can do this with Amazon Affiliates, where you can link to fitness products, supplements, equipment, etc., and earn a commission for each sale. This type of marketing could make you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in passive income. Alternatively, you could set up your own digital product selling platform by looking over here about what is available and how to get started. You will need to plan this out to see how you could fit this into your business.

#4 Google Search Console

Once you’ve set up your website, it’s imperative to register it in Google Search Console – this will help Google index your site, so it gets noticed. You will also be able to see your site’s safety, how many visitors are landing on specific pages, page speed, and much more. Google Search Console is free and has a lot of valuable and easy to use data, so it’s a must for any online fitness coach.

#5 Google Analytics

Similar to the above, another free and handy tool to look at website metrics such as landing pages, user behaviour, demographic data, bounce rate, and time spent on each page. Google Analytics enables you to look at what’s working on your site and what isn’t, so you can take appropriate action to make your website more efficient.

#6 Ahrefs – SEO

The final tool we recommend using is Ahrefs. Ahrefs is a must for any personal trainer looking to boost their SEO and rank higher on Google.

As all SEO experts know…getting links from other high valued sites is one of the best ways to boost your rankings. Ahrefs will allow you to search for new link opportunities and analyze your competitors. You can see who is linking to your competitors and look for new ways to overtake them.

Alongside building links, Ahrefs is also very valuable for creating new content on your blog. For example,  you can look up the keyword difficulty for each search term. Ahrefs will also give you unique and relevant ‘keyword ideas’ so that you can create content that serves people’s needs, ranks highly in Google, and drives traffic to your site, which will ultimately lead to more sales and long term customers.
